The first full week of games in 2025 is here! Sure, it's the preseason, so we're not out here drafting the best players - especially not in the first preseason game - but it is football, so we'll take it.
Thursday's slate has three games on it, and in many cases, it's the first opportunity for young players to make their case in a live game environment to make the roster, and we should be targeting that.
As with every preseason slate, all players have the same price applied to them, leaving us free reign (within the positional constraints) to choose who we want.
Here are three DraftKings DFS picks for this slate that I'm considering for my lineups.
QB Jalen Milroe, Seattle Seahawks
Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe will be splitting reps throughout the game for the Seahawks, so we'd expect about a half's worth of statistics for each player. But Klint Kubiak has already suggested that there will be designed run plays for Jalen Milroe, which is fantastic for fantasy purposes and takes advantage of a major skill that Milroe had while at Alabama.
Having a QB that can run and is going to play about 50% of snaps, and is a rookie, seems like a winning formula.
RB DJ Giddens, Indianapolis Colts
DJ Giddens was listed as the number 3 running back on the Colts depth chart, behind clear number one Jonathan Taylor and returning backup Tyler Goodson. His skill set coming out of college was that of a three-down back, despite some issues with drops in his final collegiate season, and this will be his first opportunity to prove that he belongs in the conversation for the number two role behind JT.
WR Jermaine Burton, Cincinnati Bengals
It's no secret that Jermaine Burton was in the dog house last season in Cincinnati as a rookie. It's also no secret that Jermaine Burton is a talented player - even to the point that some considered the eventual replacement to Tee Higgins thanks to his contract situation.
All the buzz so far is that he's starting to get out of that dog house, and I don't believe there's anyone that has more to win - or lose - on Thursday than him.
I would expect Jermaine Burton to get a solid portion of reps in tonight's game and have a few designed targets going his way so the coaching staff can see what he does in a prove-it situation, with the chance to compete up to the number three role against Andrei Iosivas on the line.
