Happy Turducken Day to those of you with only the finest of taste buds. We get three excellent games of football to help us get through the food comas we are about to enter.
With only three games on the slate, though, we have to approach this a bit different than we would our normal, larger slate of games on a Sunday. Almost anyone who's out there getting snaps becomes a possible play, and, while there's some strategy around roster construction that you should consider, it's even more imperative to find the diamonds in the rough that might be lower owned, especially in large field tournaments.
As a special treat to celebrate the holiday, here are two Thanksgiving DraftKings DFS Picks that feel like core plays and two extra that could be lower-owned gems.
Thanksgiving DraftKings DFS Picks: Core Plays
RB Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens ($7,300)
We haven't seen a signature Derrick Henry game since week one, but he's been trending upwards, scoring thrice in the past two weeks and eclipsing 100 yards in one of them.
We know how poor the Bengals defense is overall, and with Joe Burrow back in the fold, this game should be a shootout.
It looks like a perfect setup for signature game number two, and with expected high ownership, trying to fade him could prove catastrophic.
WR Rashee Rice, Kansas City Chiefs ($7,500)
Speaking of poor defenses! Look, the Cowboys defense has certainly improved, but it's still not good.
This should be a smash spot for the Chiefs passing attack, but then again, they haven't looked good in weeks, with Patrick Mahomes only throwing one touchdown in the past three games. But there are three constants in life: death, taxes, and Rashee Rice getting targets, and targets in a game like this will certainly be there.
This feels more fadeable than Derrick Henry if you had to choose to get one out of your lineup, but I clearly wouldn't want to fade either.
Thanksgiving DraftKings DFS Picks: Lower-Owned Gems
WR DeAndre Hopkins, Baltimore Ravens ($3,300)
DeAndre Hopkins has been the biggest snap-share beneficiary of Rashod Bateman being out, but it hasn't translated yet into fantasy production, given the Ravens have been less-than-stellar through the air in the past two games.
There's a chance Rashod Bateman will be back for this game, but if he is, I expect him to be on a snap count, so there's still one more week of opportunity for this to pay off.
Hopkins had a red zone target last week and would've scored if Lamar didn't overthrow him. Against a soft Bengals defense, let's hope this time he doesn't.
WR Christian Watson, Green Bay Packers ($4,700)
I expect the Packers & Lions to be the lowest-owned game of the week, so when you're looking for where those gems might be, peeking at this game is where I want to fill in the gaps.
In a week where I expect many lineup builds to feel like a stars & scrubs affair, Christian Watson is priced just a bit too high to make it into those types of builds, and if people are stacking for one game, he's sitting right above clear-complimentary-stack-piece Xavier Worthy and similarly-clear-complimentary-stack-piece Andrei Iosivas.
Even more interesting, there's three guys in this game (Watson, Jameson Williams at $4,800 and Romeo Doubs at $4,600) all right next to each other in the WR pool, to the point that they could cannibalize each other's ownership - especially Watson and Doubs.
I'd prefer the deep threat playmaker of the two, but many could gravitate to Doubs, who has been more consistent and is the cheaper of the two.
YOLO a backup TE
There's bound to be one who catches a random touchdown! And no, I'm not talking about Mike Gesicki (who sets up well again) or Isaiah Likely as a "backup TE" - if you're going to YOLO it, you fade those two and play Tanner Hudson or Noah Gray or literally-scored-last-week Brevyn Spann-Ford.
Am I doing any of this? No clue - but I'm certainly not eliminating the possibility. Anyone getting snaps!
