Welcome back to my ongoing series where I review every entry I'll be putting into the DraftKings Best Ball Millionaire tournament in 2025. If you missed the first entry, you can find it here. This is team number two, and it shows that there's a delicate balance between prioritizing your own stacks and finding playoff game correlations - and, sometimes, when you extend out farther in one direction, the other tends to slip a bit.
Double triple stacking in best ball - wait, what?
Try saying that five times fast.
On this team, I ended up having pieces falling to me in just the right spots to have two quarterbacks on the roster that have three teammates with them - also known as a triple stack.
We know that stacking in best ball is a high priority item to do, so what does this look like in practice?
But first, the team
Position-by-position, I have:
2 quarterbacks
6 running backs
9 wide receivers
3 tight ends
I'd say this is probably my most common build, especially when I feel pretty good at the QB position. This obviously brings the risk of injuries into play a lot more - one QB injury while your other is on bye and you're sitting with a guaranteed zero - but it allows me to take an extra shot at a WR for the FLEX spot, which is a reward I'll take in the "pretty good" scenario.
And in this one, I feel pretty good about it.
The stacks
Washington Commanders - Jayden Daniels plus a triple stack
QB Jayden Daniels (pick 39)
RB Austin Ekeler (pick 154)
WR Terry McLaurin (pick 34)
TE Zach Ertz (pick 135)
A lot of positional diversity in the stack, which can help with overall team building - and yet each one of these players plays a pivotal role in the passing game.
Terry McLaurin is obviously the clear-cut WR1 in this offense, and while he's not a super high-target player relative to the other receivers going near him in ADP, and he's probably due for regression in the touchdown department, there's no denying the upside still remains for a massive season.
Zach Ertz continues to defy time itself and act as the middle-of-the-field security blanket for Jayden Daniels, especially in key situations. He had 116 targets (!) last season, which is a great get when you're picking in the 130s, especially when it's correlated like this.
And with Austin Ekeler, there's nobody else behind him who can fill that third down role out of the backfield. Yes, he may lose some work to Deebo Samuel at times, but they could also just keep Deebo in the slot and play Ekeler, too. Will the Commanders really want to trot Luke McCaffrey out there and bench Ekeler in those situations, just so Deebo can be in the backfield? I'm skeptical.
Jacksonville Jaguars - Trevor Lawrence plus a triple stack.
QB Trevor Lawrence (pick 111)
WR Brian Thomas Jr. (pick 15)
WR/DB/Unicorn Travis Hunter (pick 58)
TE Brenton Strange (pick 159)
I had the Jaguars double stack on the first Milly team, and I went back to the well here - but this time, making it a premium triple stack by adding Travis Hunter to the mix. By premium, I mean that I believe I have the top pass catchers for the offense on the same best ball team - and, in many cases, that means using early draft capital to achieve it.
In short, if the Jaguars take a pretty big step forward offensively, especially in the passing game, I've got the majority of the pieces that will benefit from it.
With triple stacks, is there still room for playoff correlations?
There certainly is; however, I think I didn't do a good enough job of finding those pieces in this draft room. A couple of them got sniped from me while I was pushing to get them closer to ADP. The only true game correlation I have is with Dallas Cowboys RB Javonte Williams playing against Washington in week 17. I do have some smaller correlations that don't involve the QBs, so hopefully it's enough to matter.
