Game Scripts

The Panthers are entering this game as uncomfortable 7.5 point home underdogs with a low projected team total of 19 points, the 5th lowest among all 26 teams on the week 8 slate. The uncomfortable spread suggests a potentially pass-heavy approach while the low projected team total suggests touchdown opportunities will be severely limited.

The Texans are entering this game as slim 1.5 point home favorites with a subpar projected team total of 21.5 points, the 12th lowest among all 26 teams on the week 8 slate. The narrow spread suggests a balanced offensive approach while the subpar projected team total suggests limited touchdown opportunities. This game has a low over/under of just 41.5 points —the 2nd lowest among all 13 games on the slate — and with both teams sporting bottom 12 projected team totals under 22 points, this is more of a game to avoid than it is one to target.

Positional Matchups

After 6 games, the Bills present a mouthwatering matchup for RBs, holding them to the 10th fewest receiving yards but otherwise allowing the 3rd most rushing yards, 13th most catches, 4th most touchdowns, 4th most PPR points per game and 2nd most PPR points per touch (1.03).

After 7 games, the 49ers present a mediocre matchup for RBs, holding them to the 15th fewest rushing yards but allowing the 7th most catches, 16th most receiving yards, 11th most touchdowns, 13th most PPR points per game and 16th most PPR points per touch (0.86).

Chuba Hubbard: Bottom Line

I expect Chuba Hubbard to finish, on average, around 9–13 PPR points on 11–15 touches (50–75 scrimmage yards), 2–4 targets (1–3 catches), and 0–1 touchdowns in a near 50/50 split with Rico Dowdle.

Woody Marks: Bottom Line

I expect Woody Marks to finish, on average, around 12–16 PPR points on 14–18 touches (65–90 scrimmage yards), 3–5 targets (2–4 catches), and ~0–1 touchdowns.

Should you start Chuba Hubbard or Woody Marks?

Both of these backs could easily be in timeshares this week, but I'm much more confident that Woody Marks will be the one that, barring injury, is most likely to break into that majority-workload territory. Volume is king.
