Game Scripts
The Titans are entering week 4 with a nauseatingly low team total of just 15.5(!!!) points — the lowest among all 32 teams playing football this weekend — suggesting very few scoring opportunities or fantasy football fireworks from the Titans' "offense." They're a firm 7.5 point road underdog in Houston, suggesting negative game script that will result in a potential spike in passing attempts at the expense of rushing volume. Cam Ward is a solid bet to throw 35+ or even 40+ passes in week 4. Titans' pass catchers may enjoy a spike in targets, but the dangerously low implied point total suppresses their touchdown upside. From a volume and touchdown probability standpoint, this is a dangerous game all around for Titans' ball carriers. Tennessee is (much) more of an offense to attack with the Texans defense than it is one to fit into your week 4 lineups.
The Browns are entering week 4 with a nauseatingly low implied team total of just 17.5 points — the 3rd lowest among all 32 teams playing football this weekend — suggesting very few scoring opportunities or fantasy football fireworks from the Browns' offense. They're entering this game as an overwhelmed 9.5 point road underdog in Detroit, suggesting supremely negative game script that will result in a spike in passing attempts at a potentially severe expense of rushing volume. If he plays all 60 minutes, don't be surprised if Joe Flacco throws 45+ passes again in week 4. Browns pass catchers may enjoy a spike in passing volume, but the dangerously low implied point total suppresses their touchdown upside.
Positional Matchups
The Texans present a...fine...matchup for RBs, allowing the 8th most PPR points per game. They're tougher on receiving backs, limiting them to the 10th fewest catches, 16th fewest yards and no receiving TDs. But they're a friendly foe on the ground, allowing the 14th most rushing yards and 3rd most rushing TDs. All in all, Houston is allowing the 12th most PPR points per touch (0.90).
The Lions present a subpar matchup for RBs, allowing the 5th most rushing touchdowns but otherwise holding them to the 4th fewest touches, 7th fewest catches, 11th fewest rushing yards, 14th fewest receiving yards and 11th fewest PPR points per game. That said, they are allowing the 10th most PPR points per touch (0.91).
Tony Pollard: Bottom Line
Low-end RB2/high-end RB3 in a severely negative script. Expect Tony Pollard ~9–13 PPR points on ~16–20 touches.
Quinshon Judkins: Bottom Line
Moderate-risk RB2 in a severely negative script. Expect Quinshon Judkins ~11–15 PPR points on ~14–18 touches.
Should I start Tony Pollard or Quinshon Judkins?
Ideally you have other options to consider here - and if you do, join our weekly live Start/Sit discussion on our YouTube channel and I'll be happy to help! - but if you don't, I feel more confident in Quinshon Judkins being a better play this week.
