Game Scripts

With a subpar over/under and both teams sporting bottom 15 implied team totals of less than 23 points, Thursday night's contest between the Seahawks and Cardinals is shaping up to be somewhat of a snoozefest for fantasy football purposes; touchdowns and fantasy football fireworks looks like they'll be limited. With a narrow spread of just 1.5 points, it should be a solid "real life" football game. The narrow spread suggests a close contest and balanced offensive approach from both teams.

The Saints are entering week 4 with a nauseatingly low team total of just 16 points — the lowest among all 32 teams playing football this weekend — suggesting very few scoring opportunities or fantasy football fireworks from the Saints offense. They're an insane 16.5 point (!!!) road underdog in Buffalo, suggesting supremely negative game script that will result in a massive spike in passing attempts at the expense of rushing volume. I'd say this projects as a game where Spencer Rattler will throw 45+ passes, but he might not make it through the 3rd quarter before taking a seat on the bench. Saints pass catchers may enjoy a spike in passing volume, but the dangerously low implied point total suppresses their touchdown upside.

Positional Matchups

The Seahawks have been tough(ish) on the ground but vulnerable through the air vs running backs, ultimately allowing the 10th most PPR points per game. Despite allowing the most touches, they're limiting RBs to the 16th fewest rushing yards and no rushing TDs while simultaneously allowing the 2nd most catches and most RB receiving yards. They haven't allowed a single RB touchdown yet, one of just 2 teams (Rams) to accomplish that feat. All in all, they're allowing the 10th most PPR points per game, yet limiting RBs to the 9th fewest PPR points per touch (0.71).

The Bills have been vulnerable on the ground but somewhat tough through the air vs running backs, ultimately landing in the middle of the NFL and allowing the 13th most PPR points per game. They're limiting RBs to the 15th fewest catches and 8th fewest receiving yards but otherwise allowing the 12th most rushing yards and 5th most rushing TDs. All in all, they're allowing the 7th most PPR points per touch (1.00)

Trey Benson: Bottom Line

High-end RB2 in a low-scoring, close game. Expect Trey Benson ~13–17 PPR points on ~16–20 touches.

Alvin Kamara: Bottom Line

Mid-range RB2 in a low-scoring, negative game script. Expect Alvin Kamara ~11–15 PPR points on ~16–20 touches.

Should I start Trey Benson or Alvin Kamara?

Emari Demercado will see the field from time to time, but Trey Benson has a chance to run away with the Cardinals RB 1 job both now and in the future. He's a high end RB 2 with genuine RB 1 upside for the rest of this season - and that starts this week against the Seahawks.
