UConn vs Furman: Game Preview

Like their bracket counterparts in UCLA vs UCF, UConn vs Furman is another game where both teams play somewhat similarly. Defensively, both teams deploy drop coverage, and offensively, they both run a ton of motion with off-ball screens and cuts. This should make it easier for Furman to not get lost on defense despite having a talent disadvantage, but ultimately, the talent will prove too much here.

The Huskies do struggle against dribble operators and pick & roll to the point that, going back to our UCLA preview, UCLA is a trendy upset pick with star point guard Donovan Dent, but Furman has their own dribble operator in Alex Wilkins, who, as a freshman, has averaged almost 18 points per game this season. He can work in the pick & roll, shoot from anywhere on the floor and still can set up his teammates, averaging almost 5 assists per game. This is the type of Cinderella guard that gives team fits in March.

UConn should prevail here, but Furman won't go down without a fight.
