Week 17 Waiver Wire

Below are the players I'm considering adding to my rosters before week 17 kicks off. All of these players are near or below 50% rostered in Yahoo leagues and therefore likely to be available in most leagues.

While I'm typically pretty frugal about spending waiver priority or blind bidding dollars, there's obviously no need for that in week 17, the final week for fantasy football. Every player you're interested in adding this week is worthy of priority and blind bidding dollars.

Obviously, keep your own scoring, settings, sizes and preferences in mind when considering next steps. This list is meant to give you ideas for additions; how and what you do with them is up to you.

Disclaimer: I'm writing this during the afternoon on Monday, meaning this has been written and possibly published before or during the Monday Night Football game. Keep players from that game in mind when considering your waiver wire activity.

Quarterback

Brock Purdy - 37% rostered - After 4 games, Brock Purdy is averaging 17.11 fantasy points and 211.5 passing yards per game with 8 TDs, 2 INTs and 1 rushing TD. He's scored 14 or more fantasy points in all four games, including a high of 21.7. The 49ers are opening week 17 with a nice implied total of 24.75 points (the 7th most on the 32 team slate) as 5 point road favorites over the Raiders, a defense that's offering the 6th most fantasy points to QBs—including the 7th most passing yards and 9th most TD passes—to QBs.

Mike White - 17% rostered - After 3 games, Mike White is averaging 17.66 fantasy points and 317.33 passing yards with 3 passing TDs, 2 INTs and 1 rushing TD. White's Jets are entering week 17 with an implied total of a solid 23 points, the 12th most on the 32 team slate. White will catch a Seahawks defense that's allowing the 13th most fantasy points to QBs, including the 12th most TDs.

Running Back

Tyler Allgeier (49% rostered) - Over his last 2 games, Tyler Allgeier has 36.3 PPR points on 40 touches(including 5 catches on 6 targets) for 253 yards and 1 TD. In week 16, he played 59% of the snaps (his most since week 8) while Cordarrelle Patterson saw just 37% of the snaps. Now, in fantasy football's championship week, Allgeier is entering week 17 as a 3.5 point home favorite over the Arizona Cardinals, a defense that was offering the 7th most PPR points to RBs (including the 5th most TDs) before Leonard Fournette and Rachaad White dumped 40 touches (including 13 catches) for 215 scrimmage yards and 1 TD (40.5 PPR points) on them in week 16. Allgeier is a potential championship-winning plug-and-play.

Royce Freeman (0% rostered) - Royce Freeman quietly has 29 touches (2 catches) over his last 2 games. It's "quiet" because he's done nothing with them (94 scoreless yards, 11.4 PPR points), but he's clearly the preferred back sans Dameon Pierce. He's opening week 17 as a 4 point home underdog to the division-leading Jaguars, a defense that entered week 16 allowing the 9th most PPR points per game to RBs, including the 11th most scrimmage yards and 16th "most" TDs. Keep in mind, the Jaguars do hold RBs to the 13th fewest rushing yards and the Texans are 4 point underdogs so Freeman is a deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep RB 3/flex option, but he's an option nonetheless.

Tyrion Davis-Price (1% rostered) - Tyrion Davis-Price had 9 carries for 30 scoreless yards in week 16. Obviously that's not enough to write home about, but he's an intriguing deep, deep league option in week 16 as a 5 point favorite against a Raiders defense allowing the 4th most PPR points per game to RBs, including the 7th most scrimmage yards and 8th most TDs.

Wide Receiver

Jahan Dotson - 23% rostered - Over his last 3 games, Jahan Dotson is averaging 18.83 PPR points per game on 8 targets, 5 catches and 78.33 yards with 3 TDs (1 in three straight games). Dotson has 16 or more PPR points in each of the last 3 games, including a 20.5 spot in week 15. A natural born TD scorer on a hot streak, Dotson gets a Browns defense in week 16 that is allowing the 7th most TDs per game to WRs.

Romeo Doubs - 17% rostered - Christian Watson left week 16 early and did not return to action, calling his week 17 availability into question. Watson is allegedly day-to-day so he might play, but even still, Green Bay looks set to kickoff a week 17 shootout with the Vikings, a defense that was allowing the 2nd most PPR points to WRs (including the most catches and 2nd most yards) even before Isaiah Hodgins, Richie James and Darius Slayton dumped 20 catches, 258 yards and 1 TD (51.8 PPR points) on them in week 16.

Greg Dortch - 2% rostered - Greg Dortch reappeared in a big way in week 16, playing 76% of the Cardinals' snaps and catching 10 of 11 passes for 98 scoreless yards. The Cardinals also used him has a rusher, carrying the ball 3 times for 25 more scoreless yards and a total of 22.3 PPR points. In week 16, Dortch will catch a Falcons defense that is allowing the 6th most PPR points to WRs, including the 11th most catches, 7th most yards and 7th most TDs.

DJ Chark- 51% rostered - DJ Chark has 14 or more PPR points in 3 of the last 4 games. The Lions are entering week 17 with an implied total of 28.75 points, the most on the entire 32 team slate. There's nothing particularly exciting about Chark's week 17 matchup with the Bears, but this game's 52 point over/under implies a shootout that should be targeted in the fantasy football championships.

Chase Claypool (41% rostered), Dante Pettis, Equanimeous St. Brown and Byron Pringle (all 0% rostered) - We're scraping the bottom of the barrel here, but depending on who's healthy by the end of the week, one (or more) Bears WR could have a solid championship week against a Lions defense that's offering the 3rd most PPR points to WRs, including the 3rd most catches, most yards and 9th most TDs.

Tight End

Tyler Conklin - 27% rostered - It's a stretch, but Tyler Conklin did average 6 targets per game in 3 tries with Mike White and now gets a Seahawks defense that entered week 16 allowing the 5th most PPR points, including the 3rd most yards and 5th most TDs to TEs.

Team Defenses

If I can't get the Chiefs, Ravens, Cowboys, Buccaneers, or Eagles here are the defenses I'll be targeting in week 17:

  • Los Angeles Chargers - 35% rostered - their opponent, the Los Angeles Rams, have an implied total of just 16.75 points, the 4th fewest on the 32 team slate

  • New York Giants - 11% rostered - their opponent, the Indianapolis Colts, have an implied total of just 18.5 points, the 6th fewest on the 32 team slate

  • Atlanta Falcons - 3% rostered - their opponent, the Arizona Cardinals, have an implied total of just 18.75 points, the 8th fewest on the 32 team slate
