Let's start with the elephant in the room: Commanders at Cowboys is is a whopping 54.5 total as of this writing, a full six points ahead of the next highest game total. That game is going to be popular, and for obvious reasons. But there are some limitations in playing it; namely, stacking the Cowboys will be quite expensive no matter how hard you try for it not to be, and the Commanders - for now at least - have a bunch of injury question marks that make it hard to predict how things will materialize. So how should we attack this slate?
Here are my week 7 DraftKings DFS picks & fades that I'm considering for my lineups.
Week 7 DraftKings DFS Stack of the Week
New Orleans Saints: QB Spencer Rattler ($4,800) + WR Chris Olave ($5,400) + WR Rashid Shaheed ($4,500)
While having that Commanders-Cowboys game in your lineups is a must in some form, we don't necessarily need to make it our stack on all of our teams.
Enter the Saints passing attack, who haven't been remarkable but haven't been terrible either. The cost reflects that - this is a cheap stack that hasn't seen a ton of volume but has been efficient.
You might think that weather forecast in this game might make things slightly more difficult to come to fruition, but I think it can play into the Saints favor, with more designed short plays and screens continuing drives.
Regardless, it's cheap enough in a high enough total to consider playing it.
Week 7 DraftKings DFS Picks
RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Washington Commanders ($6,100)
We definitely don't have question marks about JCM, who has taken over as the lead back for the Commanders and lines up in that high-total game with an excellent matchup against a Cowboys defense that has allowed two different backs to go over 30 points against them. There's too much upside to do anything but prioritize him.
WR Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos ($5,900)
The entire Broncos offense is coming off that debacle of a game overseas against the Jets, where the NFL typically shows it's best product for the international community. It was season lows for Sutton, and I'm hoping it scares off enough casuals that we get a moderately-owned-at-best play with a great matchup at home against a weak Giants defense. He's sitting right next to two of the Chargers receivers that will take on some ownership, too. I like the rebound chance.
TE Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals ($5.700)
Is it cheating to pick the highest priced tight end on the slate? I don't think so, especially when the two guys right behind him - Jake Ferguson and Tyler Warren, both also in the $5K range - are in higher total games and will be extremely popular in their own right. The biggest hole in the Packers defense this season has been to the tight end, and if the Cardinals want to keep pace with the Packers in this one, they'll be heading McBride's way early and often, regardless of who's playing quarterback.
Week 7 DraftKings DFS Fades
RB Kimani Vidal, Los Angeles Chargers ($5,500)
I'm not fully convinced on a few things here, despite the fact that the broader community appears to want to jump all in:
Are we sure that Vidal is getting all of the priority touches, or will Hassan Haskins still play a part in this offense?
Was it just Miami's below average run defense that made Vidal look good on explosive plays?
If the Colts defense is good at one thing, it's been neutralizing running backs; not a single one has gotten to 20 points on them this season. There's just too much risk - and too much ownership - to jump in, in my opinion.
TE Darren Waller, Miami Dolphins ($4,200)
The weather forecast for this game is hilarious, with wind gust forecasts anywhere from 30 to 60 (!) miles per hour.
Most people will immediately write off the passing game, and it certainly is a boost to the running backs, but I think it actually becomes a decent volume opportunity for getting the ball into their speedier guys on underneath throws and screens, similar to what I said with the Saints earlier.
Needless to say, Darren Waller is not that type of player and hasn't been used in that type of capacity for the Dolphins this season. It puts him in basically a TD-or-bust scenario, and with the lowest total on the slate, you never-say-never but I don't really like the odds.
