It's the last week of the preseason, where final roster decisions are made and starters are (generally) spared from playing as to not risk injuries. As such, we're looking for roster-bubble players this week, as they're most likely to be on the field for extended looks.
Today's slate is a four-game slate with some intriguing options to consider.
Here are three DraftKings DFS picks I'm considering in my lineups for Friday, August 22nd, 2025.
QB Easton Stick, Atlanta Falcons
Okay, okay, I get it. I wrote this preamble about looking for roster-bubble players and now we're starting with someone who isn't really on the roster bubble. But in this case, it's about raw playing time - and I suspect there'll be a lot of it.
Starter Michael Penix Jr. is set to be rested in this game, as is backup Kirk Cousins, who apparently is still on this roster. That leaves Easton Stick and newly signed Ben DiNucci as the two quarterbacks available for this game, and while it's possible that DiNucci plays some of the snaps later in the game, he's less than a week in from learning the playbook.
Give me the guy who knows it and is guaranteed at least half of the game here.
RB Donovan Edwards, New York Jets
The odds of Donovan Edwards making the 53-man roster are very slim at this point, but they're not zero.
As it stands, Breece Hall, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis are roster locks, with Donovan Edwards trailing behind Kene Nwangwu for the RB4 position. Kene also plays on special teams as their kick returner, so I would go so far as to call him a lock to make the roster, too. But Isaiah Davis is currently dealing with vague "minor ankle injury", and Donovan Edwards has done well with the opportunities he's had so far as an undrafted rookie.
I expect this will be his final chance to make a push to stay on the practice squad as a fifth running back in a crowded room, and if the Isaiah Davis injury lingers, perhaps even be active at some point early in the season.
WR Darius Cooper, Philadelphia Eagles
On the other side of this game, Darius Cooper is battling for his own roster spot.
He was competing for the WR3 role against Jahan Dotson, but that picture just got even muddier as they traded for John Metchie III. That probably pushes Darius Cooper to the WR5 spot and a roster bubble unless he has another brilliant performance in this game, where starters will be rested.
He's fast - ran under a 4.5 40 yard dash at his pro day - and has shown the ability to earn targets both in college as well as in preseason action. Give me the undrafted rookie with nothing to lose and plenty to gain.
