There's never been a better time than now to take the "dead zone" running backs.

DraftKings Best Ball Millionaire review

Back in the day, the "dead zone" was a place where backs without any upside lived. They existed. They were full of risk. But they had a job! And they might get you points early in the year!

But that "dead zone" area is now full of running backs that are much more than that. With the way this draft board fell, there was a clear opportunity to take advantage of falling wide receivers and, subsequently, grab some of those "dead zone" guys to bolster the RB position.

This is draft number 12 of my Best Ball Millionaire teams on DraftKings. Let's break it down.

The team, position by position

  • 3 QBs

  • 6 RBs

  • 8 WRs

  • 3 TEs

Back to the standard, default team. With the amount of early capital dedicated to WR and RB, I didn't make first QB until round 10 and my first TE until round 15. We needed three at those positions, no doubt.

The stacks

Houston Texans double stack

  • QB CJ Stroud (pick 112)

  • WR Nico Collins (pick 9)

  • WR Jayden Higgins (pick 129)

With Joe Mixon continuing to be injured in whatever fashion he's injured because it seems like nobody, including the beat writers, know, this run game might be pretty brutal. This feels like a natural pivot to a volume-based passing game is on the horizon, so grabbing two of CJ Stroud's likely top three target earners plays into that scenario.

Miami Dolphins triple stack

  • QB Tua Tagovailoa (pick 136)

  • WR Tyreek Hill (pick 40)

  • WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (pick 232)

  • TE Darren Waller (pick 184)

Yes, that's fourth round Tyreek Hill. Definitely needed to build that out as a full stack to take advantage of it, despite having a few Dolphins stacks on other Milly teams already.

Seattle Seahawks single stack

  • QB Sam Darnold (pick 153)

  • WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (pick 33)

I screwed this one up. At pick 184, I had Elijah Arroyo prepped up to take - only to get sniped last minute. I also had Tory Horton queued up, but I took the gamble that he would be there at 201, instead taking Waller. Horton ended up going shortly after (pick 186), and it left me with basically nothing to add here that would've been meaningfully valuable.

Playoff correlations

  • Cardinals RB James Conner - the first of the "dead zone" backs I drafted - plays the Texans in week 15.

  • Steelers RB Jaylen Warren - the third of the "dead zone" backs I drafted - and TE Pat Freiermuth play the Dolphins in week 15.

  • Raiders RB Raheem Mostert plays the Texans in week 16.

  • Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin and TE Cade Otton play the Dolphins in week 17.
