Luther Burden III rookie preview
Luther Burden III — a 21 year old 2nd round pick from Missouri — is one of the highest-upside bets in this rookie class, but he also carries his fair share of volatility.
From a volume standpoint, Burden's landing spot is problematic, competing for targets with former 1st round pick DJ Moore and last year's 9th overall pick, Rome Odunze, and that's not even mentioning Cole Kmet and this year's 10th overall pick, Colston Loveland. Burden is not likely to see consistent-enough volume to be a reliable fantasy asset in year 1.
Asking Discord
I asked our subscribers in the Basement Brewed Fantasy Football Discord server to choose without looking at the Draft Dominator tool, and the results were slightly in favor of Rashod Bateman.
Would I take Rashod Bateman or Luther Burden III?
I have both within the same tier in the Draft Dominator tool, but Rashod Bateman sneaks ahead in my overall rankings. Both guys are likely better in best ball formats; however, there's less competition for targets for Rashod Bateman in what will still be a high-powered offense, even if it's run-first in nature. I can see the weekly floor being higher while still maintaining a relatively solid ceiling, where Luther Burden III may not reach that ceiling potential unless an injury occurs to one of the other wide receivers (DJ Moore or Rome Odunze.)
